Why is self optimisation important

In times of chaos, we can use our minds to bring some order and clarity back, both into our professional and personal lives.

What is self optimisation?

The world of work has drastically changed in the last decade, and there’s a growing need for more creative and emotional skills alongside expertise and knowledge.  Good health and wellbeing can be hugely beneficial to you in the workplace – you’re more likely to be engaged and motivated at work.

It all starts with the mind. The mind is how we experience the world – our thoughts and feelings can change the way we act and we can work to reprogram ourselves towards the kind of person we want to be.

Conscious vs subconscious

Our conscious mind is the intellectual, rational part, whereas our subconscious mind is emotional and subjective. Which part of the mind is more in control?

By the time you’re 35 years old, 95% of your thoughts, feelings and actions are programmed into your subconscious mind. This is very efficient, however much like leaving a website to do what its programmed too, we are going to miss opportunities to grow and optimise.

Get thinking about how you’re programmed, try and understand how you are feeling. It’s ok to acknowledge your emotions, but don’t dwell too long. Focus on how you want to feel.

Briony also warns us to be wary of the ‘Information age’. With so much information at our fingertips, we’re bombarded with updates and news. Dialling back our consumption of this will help to centre ourselves.
